The effect of Hot-natured three herbs on gastric cancer cell line (AGS)

Cancer incidence and mortality rates are increasing every year, not only in the world but also in our country. In ancient times, the main sources of Mongolian traditional medicines, including herbs such as Atragene sibirica L, Ranunculus repens L, and Pulsatilla Bungeana L, were used to treat conditions like gastric and esophageal cancer, and are collectively referred to as the "Hot natured Three Herbs" (HN3h-s). Therefore, we have the demand to scientifically research and with certain medicinal ingredients that have been used in Mongolian traditional medicine practice. The research was conducted with the support of the International School Mongolian Medicine, MNUMS and the Genetic Engineering Laboratory of the National University of Mongolia. The effect of HN3h-s on gastric cancer AGS cell was assessed with WST-8 assay [17], Migration assay [18]. The ethanolic extract of P.Bungeana L. at a dose of 500 μg/ml was 62.9%, etoposide (VP-6) was 37.1%, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was 43.3% at 24 hours, and the ethanolic extract of P.Bungeana L. at a dose of 500 μg/ml was 98.1%, etoposide (VP-6) was 70.8%, and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was 66.5% at 48 hours, indicating a higher rate of cancer cell growth inhibition activity compared to the control group. HN3h-s’s 70% ethanol and water extract were highly active in cell toxicity comparing to control group. Pulsatilla Bungeana L’s 70% ethanol tincture has effect on reduction of cancer cell migration, comparing to control group.
