Correlation between Clinical Signs and Symptoms of Convergence Insufficiency amongst Young Adults

With the increasing commonness of digital device use, there has been a noticeable impact on eye health, including conditions such as issues related to binocular vision or convergence insufficiency (CI), therefore this study focused on the correlation between the symptoms and clinical signs among young adults. This cross-sectional, diagnostic study conducted within the student population of University of Buraimi. A total of 302 students responded to the Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey (CISS). A total of 60 students who were classified as affected by the questionnaire results were randomly selected for further examination to find the clinical signs. A total of 323 students were randomly screened for the research, 302 (96%) replied to the screening questionnaire, their mean age of 21.68 ± 0.54 years ranged between 17 and 28 years, the females were 257 (85.4%) and males were 44 (14.6%). The study showed a significant correlation between scores, positive fusion vergence (PFV) and near point of convergence (NPC) (P= 0.00). The CISS score is associated with near exophoria, positive fusion vergence and near point of convergence, it has an effective sensitivity to calculate CI in young adult XX students. The CISS is poor. The study recommends using CISS in addition to clinical inspective testing gives a perfect diagnosis of symptomatic CI.
