Effectiveness of an educational health program about knowledge of nurses related to neonatal sepsis in the educational hospitals of Al- Hilla city.

Neonatal sepsis, or primary infection of the bloodstream (BSI) is a clinical syndrome characterized by a systemic inflammatory response (SIR), with or without evidence of a suspected or confirmed infection. It is one of the more frequent infectious pictures in the neonatal period, and is the one which most raises morbidity and mortality. To evaluate the knowledge of nurses. about sepsis and to assess their needs to an educational program. To construct an educational program related to the knowledge of nurses about sepsis in Hilla teaching hospitals. To determine the effectiveness of structured education program intervention with nurses about sepsis through follow up process for three months after program implementation. To find out the association between the response of nurses to the educational program with their demographic characteristics including age, educational level, years of experiences, and number of workshops about sepsis. Quasi experimental study designed to assess the knowledge of nurses about neonatal sepsis Anon probability (purposive) sample composed of (73) nurse who employed in the neonatal care units, the study sample include nurses who works in the neonatal care units of Al-Imam Al-sadiq hospital and Babylon hospital for maternity and pediatrics for the period from 10th of march to the 15th of December of 2023. The study showed that (93.1%) and (100%) in control and study group respectively were female, young age and (51.7%), (72.4%) in control and study group respectively were married and most of them have diploma degree of sciences of nursing where their percent was (48.3%), (65.5%) in control and study group respectively. Results of pre-test estimated that the most of nurses have the moderate level of knowledge of control and study group were their percent were (55.2%), (75.9%) in control and study group respectively and its non-significance at p.value <0.05. Results of post one estimated that (58.6%), of nurses in control group and (86.2%) of nurses were have a adequate knowledge regarding neonatal sepsis in study group after one month of apply the educational program. and finally results of post two estimated that (55.2%), of nurses were have a moderate knowledge in control group, while (82.8%) of nurses were have a adequate knowledge in study group after three month of apply the educational program. Most of the nurses who work in neonatal care units and shared in the study were female, and their marital status were married and most of them have diploma degree of sciences of nursing. The most of nurses have moderate level of knowledge of control and study group of nurses who works in neo-natal care units after apply the educational program. results of post one test reflects the effect of educational program of study group of nurses where the level of their knowledge change to good level of knowledge after apply the educational program. The study recommended with Developing further educational programs for the nurses that focused on neonatal sepsis and how to deal with patient with neonatal sepsis and encourage the ministry of health and health directorate to establish a special training program for develop the knowledge and practice of nurses with related to sepsis.
