Incidence of Hepatitis Virus and Risk Factors for its Transmission among Adult Hemodialysis Patients
Hemodialysis (HD) is considered one of the main risk factors for viral hepatitis transmission. The prevalence of antibodies to viral hepatitis in patients undergoing dialysis therapy was found to be one of the highest among different risk groups. Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a higher risk of death, particularly those with end-stage kidney disease. Surprisingly, nearly 50% of these deaths are related to cardiovascular disease (CVD), and this high mortality rate motivates us to identify additional risk factors that can be modified to improve survival in patients requiring hemodialysis. In addition to liver disease, chronic HCV infection has been associated with many comorbidities other than liver, such as kidney disease.
