Soft Tissue Changes after Using a Modified Twin Block Appliance in the Treatment of Patients with Class II Malocclusion: A Case Series and Method Description

Correction of the skeletal Class II malocclusion using functional appliances always leads to undesirable effects at maxillary and mandibular incisors, and these affect the amount of skeletal correction that occurs, which in turn is reflected in the facial profile. Many modifications have been made to the Twin Block appliance to increase the skeletal effect. Therefore, this case series described the soft tissues changes in skeletal Class II malocclusion treated with Twin Block appliance supported by mini-implants. 8 children with Class II division 1 malocclusion were enrolled in this study. Functional treatment for all children was done using Twin Block appliance supported by mini-implants. Soft tissue variables were measured before and after treatment using a lateral cephalometric radiograph. Functional treatment in patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion using Twin Block appliance supported by mini-implant led to an improvement in the soft tissue profile.
