THE ADHERENCE OF TAKING IRON SUPPLEMENT, HEMOGLOBIN LEVEL, AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF ANEMIC ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN UNGARAN, SEMARANG REGENCY

The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls aged ≥15 years according to WHO is 28%. Adherence to taking iron supplement affects hemoglobin levels. If hemoglobin levels are low, oxygen demand in body tissues is disrupted, resulting in anemia and affecting quality of life. To determine the compliance of taking iron supplement, hemoglobin level of the final examination, quality of life after being given iron supplement, the relationship of compliance of taking iron supplement with hemoglobin level, and the relationship of hemoglobin level with quality of life of anemic adolescent girls at State Senior High School 1 Ungaran Semarang Regency. This study used one group pre and pos-test design. Data on characteristics, adherence, and quality of life were obtained from questionnaires. Data Hemoglobin level data were obtained from blood test using GCHb test kit. The majority of respondents were not compliant with taking iron supplement (94.03%), the quality of life was good (73.14%), there was a relationship between adherence to taking iron supplement and hemoglobin levels hemoglobin level (p = 0.004) but there was no relationship of hemoglobin level with quality of life (p = 0.762) of anemic adolescent girls at State Senior High School 1 Ungaran Semarang Regency. Respondents were not compliant with taking iron supplement, so many hemoglobin levels were still <12 g/dL, but the majority had a good quality of life. Adherence to iron supplement is related to hemoglobin level, but hemoglobin level is not related to quality of life of anemic adolescent girls at State Senior High School 1 Ungaran Semarang Regency.
