Thoracic Endometriosis Presenting as Recurrent Catamenial Pneumothorax in a Perimenopausal Patient
Thoracic endometriosis is a rare disease that affects primarily young women, often misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed. This is a case of a 51-year-old G2P2 (2002) perimenopausal patient presenting with recurrent catamenial pneumothorax. Diagnosis is complicated and often delayed. A high index of suspicion in females presenting with recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax concomitant with menses. Prompt Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) was done and revealed diaphragmatic implants. Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist was started. This led to no recurrence with the return of baseline function of the patient.
