Treatment Duration of Modified Twin Block Treatment for Class II Malocclusion: A Randomized Controlled Trial

This study aimed to compare the functional treatment duration in patients treated with conventional and newly designed twin block appliances. 2-arm parallel-randomized clinical trial was conducted on 36 patients (17 males, 19 females) in the age group of 11–13 years. Subjects were treated with modified Twin Block (group 1, n=18) and conventional Twin Block (group 2, n=18) appliances. A standard recall interval of 6 to 8 weeks. At each recall visit, until an overjet 0.5-2.5 mm and Class I canine relationships were achieved in the centric relationship position, and then the treatment duration was recorded. Mann-Whitney U test was employed for intergroup comparisons respectively (p<0.05). The mean functional treatment duration in Modified Twin Block was 270.43 days, while in the conventional Twin Block group was 249.00 days, with a statistically significant difference (P=0.009). There are no clinically differences in functional treatment duration between modified and conventional Twin Block.
